About The FACTs of Mechanical Design
Welcome to “The FACTs of Mechanical Design!” I'm Professor Jonathan Hopkins and I’ll be posting three mechanical engineering design courses to this channel:
1) Compliant Mechanism Design – Compliant mechanisms are flexible machines that deform to achieve a desired task. Examples include origami, soft robots, precision flexures, flexible medical tools, and MEMS devices. This course will cover approaches used to design and fabricate such mechanisms.
2) Introduction to Mechanisms and Mechanical Systems – Traditional mechanisms consist of rigid links connected together by joints. This course will cover approaches for analyzing gears, cams, and linkages.
3) Introduction to Architected Materials – Architected materials (a.k.a., mechanical metamaterials) consist of tiny elements organized within large lattices or networks that collectively achieve designed properties, which derive primarily from their architecture instead of their composition.
