In 2006 I began beekeeping. I have worked hard to learn as much as I can, passing my Georgia Master Beekeeper in 2010. I really like helping people learn to be with the bees and to that end have kept a blog since 2006. During the pandemic I began teaching by recording my hive inspections and swarm captures to show on Zoom as a teaching aid. I have kept that up even though we are doing inspections in person again. Also I love to cook and bake with honey. I was invited to give several talks on cooking with honey during the pandemic and since I couldn't take food to share with the audience on Zoom, I started recording how to cook recipes with honey. My YouTube channel includes videos on hive inspections, swarm collection, cooking with honey, and beekeeping tips for help in working with the bees. Swarm arrival April 25, 2022

As I was eating dinner on my deck, I suddenly realized a swarm was moving into an empty hive in my backyard. I had gotten home at 5:30. Hive Inspection April 15, 2022

This inspection starts with Linda's top bar and then her Langstroth hive in her daughter's yard. We then go to a friend's yard where the hive is dying - it's queenless and full of small hive beetles. The honey in it is slimed. I included it so you could see what you see in a dying hive.

Orientation flying by honey bees

Linda shows you how orientation looks. Many beekeepers confuse orientation with robbing. In orientation the bees are learning the identifying features of their hive so they can find it when they leave and go foraging for nectar, water, pollen or propolis.
