3) how these protocols work

This could be blockchain token-based ecosystem, video game simulated economy or real business world like frequent flyer and credit card points system. The goal is to educate you on the various mechanism behind how digital ecosystems work.

More specifically, Economics Design focuses on the design of ecosystems. That means incentive design and governance. All ecosystems (digital, tokenised, non-digital) have similar underlying economics concepts. By understanding these economic concepts, it can help to better design incentives for participants. When we measure these designs, we can improve how the system works.
